Scholarships

SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM 2010 (Open to military ID holders only)

APPLICATION DEADLINE IS 2:00 PM ON THURSDAY, APRIL 1, 2010.

Recipients will be notified by mail the first week of June.

 
There are 3 categories of scholarships:  
 
1. The Academic Achievement Award is for graduating high school seniors who will be full time students pursuing an undergraduate degree at an accredited college or university.
 
2. The Undergraduate Achievement Award is for full time, unmarried undergrad students pursuing a first undergraduate degree at an accredited 2 or 4 year college or university.
 
3. The Continuing Education Scholarship is for a military spouse who will be attending an accredited institution of higher learning (i.e. junior college, college or university, trade or technical school) for the upcoming year/semester.  Masters degree and doctoral work EXCLUDED. 
 
Eligibility: 
 
Applicants must have a valid military ID.
 
The applicant must have an affiliation with Fort Belvoir - a parent or spouse must live on, work on, be deployed from Fort Belvoir OR a member of the applicants immediate family must have volunteered a minimum of 60 verifiable hours at Fort Belvoir Community activities during 2009.  The achievement awards require a GPA of 3.0 or higher. 
 
INELIGIBLES: 
1.  Applicants who have already received 2 monetary awards from this program
2.  Recipients of full scholarships, grants or awards that pay 100% if tuition, room and board
3.  Those attending Armed Forces Service Academies
4. Those who have no current affiliation with Fort Belvoir
5.  Scholarships may not be used for previously incurred costs
 
Scholarship applications will be available at the Belvoir Thrift Shop - - during regular business hours - -Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday as well as the first and third Saturday of each month from 9am until 2pm.  
 
Applications will NOT be mailed or emailed.  Eligibility is verified when you come to the Thrift Shop to pick up the application.  Parents may pick up applications for their students.
